As the process to elect new Executive members of the Nigerian Psychological Association NPA gathers momentum, Dr Emmanuel Alhassan has pledged to provide conducive environment for members to practice their profession.
This is just as he pledged to ensure Finalisation of the Nigerian Council for Psychologists Act through Civil Society, Legislative and Executive advocacy.
Dr. Alhassan, a Psychometrician, also assured that he will use his wealth of experience to provide supportive leadership for attainment of strategic achievements for members.
Alhassan who is contesting for the Vice President I, position of the Association in the forthcoming general election of the Association gave the assurance in an interview with Journalists on Monday in Lokoja.
He noted that the NPA was supposed to provide enabling environment for psychology to thrive and as well, promote the discipline and its practice in the country.
The Organisational Psychologist said that another vital issue he would like to support the NPA President to tackle is that of operationalisation of the psychologists cadre in the Federal Government Scheme of Service.
He said that the NPA could take the lead for increased awareness and funding for provision of psychological services to Nigerians.
“In terms of strategic planning the Nasarawa State University lecturer said he would partner the NPA leadership to evolve a strategic plan, looking at the vision, mission and objectives of the Association and the things they needed to prioritise, to make medium and long-term plans.
“This involves getting the views and ideas from various stakeholders in the various divisions and the state chapters to harness innovative ideas to chart a new course for psychology in Nigeria”, he said.
Alhassan who is also a former chairman of the FCT chapter of NPA said he would influence the leadership to deploy innovations in technology to build a robust database of members of the association.
He attributed a lot of “sudden deaths and psychological trauma” to little knowledge on mental health hinting that he intends to lend the issue, a voice and bring it to the front burner.
“Most of my professional life has been dedicated to the development of health and education as well as the advancement of humans wherever they may be.
“Over the years, I have dedicated myself to advancing the course of Psychology in Nigeria, serving in both the Private and Public sectors respectively.”, he said.
Alhassan, was a former National Project Manager of the second World Bank HIV/AIDS Programme Development Project (HPDP II) was a Training Development Officer with Industrial Training Fund (ITF).
He was also Regional Manager, OANDO; USAID embedded Consultant with NACA; Special Adviser, PPP and former chairman FCT chapter of NPA among others.
