* Urges NWC to compel Uhotu to accept impeachment for Success of Party
The Executive Council of Peoples Democratic Party, NWC in Ofu Local Government Council of kogi state has warned the state Chairman of the party,Engr. Sam Uhuotu of dire consequences for his continued recognition of the former Chairman of the Party, Engineer Gabriel Itanyi.
The two -third members of the Executive Council EXCO had passed a vote of no confidence on the erstwhile chairman, Gabriel Itanyi, who they accused of anti party activities, gross misconduct and financial misappropriation.
In a Press Conference held in Lokoja on Monday, the aggrieved party Exco members said, despite the impeachment, which followed due process, the state chairman does not deem it fit to de-recognised the embattled chairman, Gabriel Itanyi.
The party noted that the action of the state Chairman against the popular decision of the party members is likely to negatively impact on the fortune of the party at the general elections.
The Public Relations Officer, Hon. Adaji John, who read the prepared text, said, having followed due process in the impeachment of Engr. Gabriel Etanyi, the state chairman action is a demonstration of his hidden agenda to frustrate the activities of the Ofu PDP.
The party said his continued hobnobbing with former chairman, Itanyi, could be construed to have been bought over, a scenerio, if not nib in the bud will spell doom for the party in Ofu LGA, Kogi east and Kogi state in General.
They lamented that despite the impeachment, the State Chairman continue to recognise the impeached Itanyi against the will of the majority of the party stakeholders.
They therefore call on him to reverse himself within forty eight hours of this publication or be ready to face the wrath of Ofu PDP who will mobilise all local Government Excos across the state to demand for his removal.
The Ofu PDP , however ,called on the National Working Committee NWC of the Party, the Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, National Chairman, Iyorcha Ayu, and other leadership of the party to call engineer Uhuotu to order to do the needful to prevent the fall of PDP in the area.
Other speakers at the briefing, include, Akawu Nathan Onogwu, Treasurer, Hajia Mariam Laraba Ukwenya, Woman Leader and Hon. Momosani Musa Isah the Acting Chairman of the PDP in Ofu LGA, even as they warned against complacency by the PDP State Chairman which would negatively affect the party in the coming election.
A leader of the Ofu PDP, Hon. Okpanachi Attah, said the impeachment of the Party Chairman followed due process, called on the State Chairman not to toy with the destiny of the party, as it would lead to collosal damage for the PDP.
” Recall that on the 28th of June, 2022 a vote of no confidence was passed on Engr. Gabriel Itanyi ,the PDP Chairman Ofu LGA by 2/3 of the Local Government Executive Committee which led to his Impeachment following his Suspension over Allegations of gross misconduct, high-handedness , Financial Misappropriation which have rendered the party unpopular, among other things in Ofu LGA.
“The State Working Committee was duly communicated and on receipt of the Impeachment letter of Engr. Gabriel Itanyi, the State Working Committee in their Wisdom set up a five (5) man Committee Headed by Hon Sam Abenemi; the Deputy State Chairman to look into the matter with the mandate to verify and ascertain the authenticity of the Signatories and to see if due process was followed
‘On the 4th of September, 2022 the committee invited all the Local Government Executive Committee including the impeached Chairman Engr. Gabriel Itanyi and after several interrogation, the Committee reports upheld the Impeachment of the Chairman which was further submitted to the State Working Committee on The 19th October, 2022 and it was unanimously approved and ratified by all Members only for the State Chairman to unilaterally give Contrary order for non Implementation of the Impeachment for his sinister motive.
” To us the action of the Chairman is considered undemocratic, unconstitutional and abuse of the democratic tenet which
the party PDP is known for.
” We have it on good authority that the State Party chairman has been compromised and has been paid to frustrate the activities of PDP in Ofu Local Government and Kogi East in general.
“We therefore call on the party Leaders and National working Committee to compell the State Chairman, Engr. Sam Ohotu to recognize the acting Chairman, Hon. Momosani Musa Isah as we’re determine to deliver PDP in all positions in the forthcoming elections.” The Exco members warned.
