Niger Govt. Commences Payment Of Gratuities of state and local government Pensioners

Niger state Government has commences settlement of gratuities of Pensioners who retired from the State and Local Government services for over ten years.

The Director General,Niger State Pension board,Mallam Nasiru Saidu Namaska stated that in the first batch only 178 retirees that have been shortlisted for payment from state civil service after providing evidence of retirement from service.

This is coming against the backdrop of a series of protests by the pensioners who have been calling on Governor Abubarkar Sani Bello-led administration to release their entitlements before vacating office next year.

The Director General, Nasiru  Namaska also disclosed that among those that are captured in the first batch are retirees that died without getting their retirement benefits.

He Said that the next of kin of those who’s name appears on the list should come to the pension board with relevant documents being demanded or they may risk the forfeiture of the deceased entitlements to the state government.

The Director-General Alhaji Nasiru Saidu Namaska further mentioned that the state government has released the sum of one billion naira to settle in full the benefits of only 178 pensioners from state and local government Pensioners.

Namaska however insists on, first-come-first-served basis and each of the beneficiaries must be able to produce valid evidence of being a former employee of the state government such as a first employment letter and as well as letter of retirement/disengagement from service.
