The Executive Chairman, Omala Local Government Council, Hon. Ibrahim Aboh has described as false and malicious, the publications by some Newspapers and online media making the rounds claiming that a canoe carrying over forty passengers capsized and killed all the occupants who were returning from Bagana market in Omala LGA in kogi to Umaisha in Development Area of Nasarawa state.
Recall that some Newspapers and online media had reported that on Sunday at 930pm, a canoe carrying over forty traders capsized midway on their way to Umaisha in Nasarawa state.

The Chairman who noted that the content of the story was laden with lies and innuendos as there is no river Niger in between Bagana and Umaisha as claimed by the reporter.
He added that it is a known fact that from Bagana to Umaisha a trip of less than 20 minutes would on the fictitious day takes the boat operator over five hours, as the market officially closed at 6pm due to activities of insecurity in the area .
He wondered why the reporters would write unverified stories and dish out to unsuspecting populace as the Said Bagana Market was held on Saturday and not Sunday as reported by the writers.
Aboh disclosed that for those who are familiar with the riverine terrain , there wouldn’t be a tree right inside the river channel at a dry season where water volume has dropped to less than one quarter of its size that a boat would plunge into, before killing all the occupants.
He said even a cub reporter would know that the confirming Authority in event of accidents is the Police and not the traditional ruler which the reporters claimed their authenticity.
He lamented at some Journalists who have made themselves to be used by some misguided and mischief makers to cause apprehension and fears among the peace loving people of Bagana communities.
He said having worked hard to bring peace and return the people to their ancestral home, some persons who have been benefiting from the crisis, have resorted to the press to dish out false , misinformation and misleading stories to the people.
He noted that , the market which was closed down for some months for security reasons has recently been reopened to enable the returnees to eke a living while rebuilding their abodes.
He therefore enjoined journalists to cross check their facts with relevant Agencies before rushing to the press to satisfy their paymaster.
