Ahead of the forthcoming governorship election, the Social Democratic Party SDP has decried the coordinated attack orchestrated by both state and non state actors against women and children who are supporters of the party in kogi state.
This is just as it called on the first lady, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, President Bola Tinubu, Security Agencies to wade into the ongoing ethnic cleansing targeted against the people of kogi East .
Addressing the journalists at a world conference held on Wednesday in Lokoja , the Chairman, Muri/ Sam campaign Council, Col.Suleiman Babanawa rtd, lamented at the wanton destruction to the properties of the members of the party in kogi, stressing that both the fake police , members of Police Quick Response Squad were deployed to maim , kill and intimidate his members who were exercising their legitimate rally at Ejule and Ajaka yesterday.
He noted with chagrin that his party that was designated as underdog which has now become the darling of the people was marked to be obliterated from the contest by the agents of the state who are supposed to be keep vigil on the lives and property of citizenry.
The campaign chairman, wondered why a head of an important unit of the police force, QRRS would deploy his officers to an outlawed individual to kill supporters of other political parties especially the SDP, the party and its candidate that has become the toast of the state
He said despite the myriads of attack against the members in Kotonkarfe, Dekina, Ofu and other villages where the people have infestious love for the party, lamented that, the recent attack at Ejule and Ajaka in which his people were shot at in close range , property worth millions of naira destroyed should have called for the prying eyes of the law.
He said no matter the degree of intimidation and harassment, the people have resolved to vote for the SDP, which they believed would serve their interest.
According to him, the unsuspecting supporters were holding their rallies at Ejule and Ajaka , in kogi East, when one Friday Sani , his thugs and some policemen led by ASP Ademu
Sani unleashed terror on them.
He said although, the police and other relevant law enforcement agencies were briefed nut nothing happened, stressed that it took the spirited and determination of the youths, women and children who confronted them and arrested and handed them over to the police.
” We were at ogorimangogo for a rally. We are not cut out for violence. We heard that our supporters have been attacked in kogi East . We ordered them to disperse from the rally. The thugs went further into Ajaka and tried to provoke the people and the people’s resolve overpowered them. Those arrested is one Asp Ademu Sani attached to Quick Response team. In his confessional statement, he said his Commander CSP Femi Ojo sent him to join the team.
According to Babanawa ” I Salute Ajaka people for defending their land. Women and youths confronted them and were able to arrest them. I call on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to as a matter of urgency institute disciplinary measures against Femi Ojo who has over stayed his welcome in the state , having spent six years in Kogi.
” We perceived that the Commissioner of Police, CP Bethrand Onuoha is a crack professional police officer and a man of integrity and honour. He should not allow people like CSP Femi Ojo to rundown his meritorious career.
” As I speak to you, Police officers under CSP Ojo are being deployed to Dekina and Idah Local Government chairmen to unleash mayhem on the people of kogi East. .Asp Adamu’s confession has gone viral indicting Femi Ojo of the illicit deployment. It is lamentable and worrisome for Femi Ojo to connive with thugs to kill and maim innocent people. We hereby Call on the international community, President Bola Tinubu, the first lady, a passionate mother to halt the massacre targeted at women, children and youths of the area.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governorship candidate, Sam Abenemi who attributed the alleged forgery of his certificate to be the handiwork of mischief makers.
He said , he graduated from secondary school in 1979 but with deficiency in his Waec which he sat for external Waec in the same year stating that he used the two certificate to gain admission to the university. He said, he has since deposited his original certificates with his bank for safe custody.
He called on the people of the state to remain resolute in the face of this oppression, saying voting for SDP is a vote for liberation.
In a swift reaction, the kogi command of the Nigeria Police said , it has commenced investigation into the viral video depicting one of the officer in the pool of his blood.
In a press statement issued by ASP William Aya and made available to journalists in Lokoja on Wednesday noted that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation Department has been tasked to commence investigation.
The CP reiterates the Command’s unwavering commitment to continue to engage the critical stakeholders in Election Security Management to ensure a secure environment for electoral process.
While warning the mischief makers to have a rethink assured all the parties that the Command is ever determined in providing a level playing ground for all Political Parties as they embark on campaigns, rallies, procession among others.
