NPC launches 2023/2024, NDHS in Kogi state.
* Captures 18 LGAs , Assures hitch free exercise.
The Nigeria Population Commission NPC has launched the 2023/2024 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey NDHS in Kogi state .
The State Director of NPC , Abiodun Ojo Titus, disclosed this in a media briefing held on Tuesday in Lokoja .
The state Director noted that the five year project is designed to assist institutions in collecting and analysing data needed for planning, monitoring and evaluate population, Health and Nutrition programs.
He added that the project is funded by agencies such as, UNFPA, USAID, BMGF and ICF in collaboration with NPC and FMOH, SFH,NBS and federal ministry of women affairs as partners in Nigeria.
He said the purpose of the survey is to provide information through appropriate data collection , analysis and evaluation, even as to improve coordination and partnership in data collection at international and country levels.
While adding that the survey would improve data collection, analysis tools and methodologies, affirm that the survey would significantly help to disseminate information relating to the utilisation of the data.
Abiodun , further stated that the current edition of the survey is the 7th in the series, and it is aimed at providing information on population, fertility, family planning, marriage, maternal and child health, child survival, Hiv/ Aids , reproductive health and nutrition, and other related issues of gender, domestic violence, tobacco and alcohol consumption in the country.
He explained that these health indicators are very key and helpful to policy makers and program planners in health related plannings.
The NPC boss reiterated the strategic planning that has gone into the projects and called on stakeholders to ensure unwavering commitment to the success of the program.
While disclosing that the commission has spearheaded the implementation of the NDHS in the past three decades, even as it has been instrumental in providing invaluable insights that informed evidence based policies, enhance public health interventions and contribute to the larger development agenda of Nigeria.
He noted that a vigorous field work exercise involving data gathering and mapping has commenced in some selected clusters in 18 out of 21 LGAs in kogi state stressing that the survey is targeted at women between the ages of 15- 49 and 15-59 for men.
He commended the state government through the ministry of women affairs , the United States agency for international development USAID, and other international Organizations for their unwavering funds support for the projects.
Meanwhile, he has allays the fears of safety of field officers , assuring that Military personnel, police , other security services and vigilantes have been contacted to provide security through out the exercise.
