Gunmen kill police , Civil Defence , Traders, abducts expatriate construction workers in Kogi.
In a well coordinated and simultaneous attack by gunmen on some banks at Anyigba,a University town in kogi East and on a construction site at Obangede , headquarters of Okehi LGA left a civil defence officer, policeman and some road side hawkers dead while an unspecified expatriate construction workers were abducted .
The incident happened almost simultaneously, when the sleepy town of Obangede, headquarters of Okehi LGC was awaken by the staccato and oozing fire from the AK-47 rifles shattered the environment which lasted for about 30 minutes with a gruesome killing of a civil defence officer, simply identified as Wahab who was detailed to provide security protection for the officials of Tec Engineering, handling the Okaito Obangede Ihima road project.
Similarly, a police officer, identified as Idoko attached to Anyigba Divisional Police station met his untimely death in the hands of the hoodlums who attacked the station with lethal weapons including explosives.
According to unconfirmed sources the robbers at Anyigba were said to have attacked the police station, overpowered the officers on duty, cart away arms and ammunition from the armoury before heading to the banks located on the City square university axis of the Anyigba Ankpa highway.
It was gathered that the slain police officer had put up resistance and engage them in a shoot out before he was hit dangerously leading to his death on the spot.
According to eye witness, the gunmen who arrived the station around 10 am this morning in large numbers in a Suzuki mini truck and Sienna bus did not waste time with volleys of gun shots hitting hard on the station as security officers and some suspects in the cell scampered to safety even some unlucky passerby were hit with stray bullets.
A local who sell yams near the station and crave for anonymity, recounted that after demobilising the police , the hoodlums moved straight to the expressway where Access Bank, GTB etc are located and opened fire killing a security guard before gaining access into the banking hall, where some customers were forced to lay face down while the operation lasted.
It was gathered that soldiers drafted to the scene engaged the robbers in a gun duel, but no confirmation of arrest of the criminals or the fatalities on either side.
Meanwhile, the kidnappers of the expatriates may have allegedly opened channels of communication as they may have placed a ransome.
However, as at press time both the spokespersons of Police command SP William Aya and NSCDC Abdullahi Aliyu have not responded to WhatsApp messages put across to them.
