The kogi state Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has called on the practising Journalists in the state to demonstrate highest ethical standards in the discharge of their duties and to foster unity among members.
The governor gave the charge on Wednesday at the NUJ Press Center in Lokoja, during the breaking of fast dinnerĀ hosted by the kogi state Council of the NUJ .
Represented by the Special Adviser on Media, Hon.Ismaila Isah appealed to Journalists to eschew tendencies that will portray the profession in bad light , by exhibiting highest standards of professionalism in reporting activities of the state.
The Special Adviser described the programmeĀ as a reflection of the Teachings of Prophet Muhammad in the holy Month of Ramadan and urged journalists in the state toĀ support one another and reflect on the plight of the needy in the society assuring of government continuous support for the pen profession.
He said that his presence at the event is likeĀ home coming for him, nothing that the event once again demonstrated theĀ love and togetherness of all journalists .
According to him, the special event is also an opportunity to foster unity and love for one another as professional colleagues.
“It is a fact thatĀ journalists hardly find time to refresh and relax because of the demand of the profession. But today is anĀ opportunity to fulfill a spiritual obligation as Muslims.
“I am using this occasion to commended the NUJ Kogi State Council for putting the event together and this will certainly foster unity among journalists in the state because the event brought together both Muslims and Christian without discrimination” he said.
He called on journalists to remain dedicated, focused and eschew sentiments that will poseĀ negativeĀ impact on their editorial independence.
