Dare Devil gunmen , suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have in the afternoon of Thursday killed no fewer than 34 villagers of Agojeju Odo in Omala Local Government Area of kogi state.
The villagers who were returning from the farms around 4pm on Thursday met their Waterloo when some gunmen who had surrounded the village, opened volleys of gun shots at the people in their houses killing on the spot 19 persons including two women while 15 others who escaped into the bush with gunshot wounds were later found dead as according to the locals.
Confirming the incident on Friday, the Police Public Relation Officer of Kogi State Police Command SP William Aya , said the yet to be identified gunmen attacked Agojeju Odo community in Omala LGA on Thursday, noting that the Divisional Police Officer of the local government informed him that, nineteen people were killed while some sustained injured in the attack.
He stated that the Commissioner of Police Kogi State Police Command, CP Bethrand Onuoha has deployed more policemen to the communities, assuring that the perpetrators of the heinous act will be apprehended.
Meanwhile, a community leader in the area, who did not want his name in print, lamented at the unprovoked killing of his people by suspected Fulani herders who have been making lives unbearable for his people.
He said , few months ago, the herders who have occupied their farms , destroying crops with impunity and in attempt by the villagers for them to see reasons led to gruesome murder of four of the citizens.
He noted that this attack has become one too many and unbearable for the people as they continue to live in perpetual fears of the unknown.
A survivor, who lost his wife in the attack, , while narrating the ordeal to Treasure times amidst tears, said , he has lost a mother, father, sister, brother all wrapped in his wife.
He called on the State governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo and Security Agencies to do everything within their powers to bring perpetrators to book , at least, to appease the dead.
Recall that Bagana , a nearby neighbor has been completely destroyed and taken over by the armed Fulani herders who operate with impunity within the communities.
