International Menstrual Day: VOWE Foundation sensitise Students of Notre Dame Academy, Enugu, On Menstrual Hygiene

VOWE Foundation recently embarked on sensitisation of female students of Notre Dame Academy, Enugu, on Menstrual Hygiene to boost their awareness

The Programme tagged “Period Positive School Tour” was part of the Foundation’s activities to commemorate the 2024 International Menstrual Hygiene Day.

All female students of the Junior secondary classes of the College received sanitary materials, educational items and menstrual hygiene lectures from experts.

Dr Ifeoma Edegware, a Gynecologist from University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Enugu and Pharmacist Chiamaka Ezugwu Vannissa educated young girls between the ages of 10- 16 years on the essence of this year’s theme: “Together for a period friendly world”

Speaking during the period positive school tour activity, the Principal of Notre Dame Academy, Rev Sir Cordelia, emphasized on the need to constantly sensitise young girls to maintain good menstrual hygiene and have access to quality menstrual products and to stop stigmatisation against women and girls because they menstruate.

In a good will message by the founder of VOWE Foundation, Mrs Sophie Uzodimma Onovo, called for increased awareness and support for girls across the world to improve access to quality menstrual products, good toilet to use during menstruation and stop all taboos and stigmatisation against women and girls because they menstruate.

She explained that the project is aimed at addressing the menstrual challenges confronting females in Enugu state.

She said, “We believe that every girl and woman deserves the right to manage their mensuration with dignity, and our goal is to create a world where mensuration is no longer a source of shame or fear

Students of Notre Dame Academy expressed their appreciation to the founder of VOWE Foundation, Mrs Sophie Uzodimma Onovo for her philanthropic gesture to organise the programme.
