PDP: Just Before Her Interment in Kogi

By Praise Godswill

Power, Beauty, Money and positions happen by time and season– Anonymous.
There was a time, Peoples Democratic Party d PDP, was the Songs: Lyrics, Rhythm , and Dance of those that matters in Nigeria and those who want to taste the iceberg. It was the convergence of bedfellows. It was for the high, mighty and the lowly . Everyone crammed into it .
PDP then got drunken, intoxicated and proud. It hadĀ  boasted that nothing could happen to it and, if anything at all, it will exist for sixty years or forever.
Ā However, time and chance proved her wrong. And barely sixteen years, those who swam in her glory divorced her for another elegant, curly and pervasive damsel, the APC.
Those who sworn to high heavens of its invincibility have absconded her speedily to the Golgotha.
The engine could no longer drive them forward. They have all Japa to the new bride, leaving the old boisterous bride even without asking for refund of bride prize.
Ā They have nothing whatsoever to do with her again. They sang a new song of ever dated her. She has become a woman of yore.
But , with her former frame and adornment, some states managed marginally to hold on to her famished beauty, which , to cynics and realistsĀ  may not last a forlorn before it willĀ  be discarded, as everyone wants to be accomplished in a rulingĀ  Party.
SomeĀ  members of the Party in Kogi state, was andĀ  still sluggishly romancing withĀ  her recoiled oldĀ  beauty.
They held on to her for few years. Both the landlords and tenants begun to be fatigued. Her baked cakes no longer forthcoming.
The songs have taken a flight. The centre could not hold and anarchy is loosed on her budding frame.
Ā Those who could not see her diminishing frame as a threat survived the second stanza of her demise. They began to pack their belongings , with the third stanza of the new bride -APC– in town , the house begun to collapse in earnest.
The usual blaring sirens of their vehicles started waning as they seldom park near her dwelling.
They hated her with great breath. Her sight is ominous for their likings as it will smear them away from the new bride.
Those who benefited immensely from her formerĀ  beauty and endowment swore not to have anything again to do with her.
Ā They trade off her elegance , beauty , and her once deposit of opportunities. Alas ,PDP has become a pariah and a hermit as her abode is no longer decent enough to attract them.
She yelled and cried but the ears of her suitors refused to tingle.
Her tears flowed torrentially to the ground but nobody to comfort her .
The Umbrella has fallen off the wall. She reminded the suitors that they once sucked her breasts and enjoyed her flesh, but , no one to console her.Ā  The more she shouted of her terminal ailment, the more she has no one to listen.
Sadly, aĀ  tour to her once boisterous abode opposite Nigeria Security andĀ  Civil Defense Corps’ headquarters at zone 8 will confirm her melancholy.
However, some few former suitors who remembered her indelible marks on their journey to progress, have decided, if for nothing, they will be at her interment. They conspire within themselves that , if they cant revive her, they will be able to dig her grave.
Not because they love her again, but, to merchandise her frail breast with the reigning Jezebel-APC, which will be coming to knock their doors in less than three years from now.
The National headquarters of the Party which once dominated the political firmament of the country looked the other way, when , she is still recuperating in the intensive care unit of the politics of kogi state.
Meanwhile, the recent appointment made by the APC led administration signpost her quick demise.
Ā It was instructive to note that the way and manner, the lords of the manor jostled to nominate their candidates for appointment to the new Czar confirmed her never resurrection
.
It was the beehives of struggles among the high and mighty of the PDPĀ  to have the ears of APC administration in the state led by Gov’ Ahmed Usman OdodoĀ  to pick their nominees. The reason for their trade off could not be farfetched.
Politics in this country which is laden with winner takes all, makes capitulation ofĀ  PDP imminent.
Being out of power for over Eight years has wearied them. They need survival and belongingness, even, if , it is through proxies. In a true democracy, opposition is often the voice of the people and kernel of political ethos, however, not so in Kogi state .
Succinctly, the few remnants with the PDP areĀ  on the fringes,Ā  still planning to rescue her from timely death.
The state PDP has been for sometime, without home leadership. The National headquarters of the Party had appointed caretaker committee, but they seemed not to care much for the party.Ā  Activities have been in limbo. No one is in charge, so it seemed.
To the grapevine, efforts are in top gear, -but yet to be felt- to organise state Congress.
And before the final whistle, jobbers were already on high throttle. The Congress, if it is everĀ  conducted , may be the tonic to ultimately obliterate the party.
From theĀ  unauthorised list ofĀ  aspirants being brandishing around, were people of low commitment to the Party. The list is populated by acrobatic political personae. Their antecedents lend credence to merchandising the party.
Their sole aim, if there is any other aims at all , is to trade off the party , when 2027 race kicks off.
They care a hoot about her survival, only their pockets. The 2023 election was a testimony.
The leadership then, had their feet within and outside the party. While they were receiving some aspirants, they themselves were being received by other parties. They fled to other parties like butterflies , until PDP lost flame and steam..
However, the puzzle is, who else among the plethora of intending aspirants can perform surgical operation on the once darling party of the state, your guess is as good as mine.
