The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) and the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) have reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate for the successful conduct of the upcoming local government elections.
During a meeting today, the Chairman of KOSIEC, Hon Mamman Nda Eri welcomed the NUJ executives to discuss strategies for ensuring free, fair, and credible elections in the state.
Hon. Eri, expressed optimism about the partnership, emphasising the importance of mediaās role as election day approaches and tasks become more sensitive.
He urged the union to work closely with the Commission for a successful outcome, noting that the benefits of local government autonomy, when achieved, would be shared by all.
Hon. Eri also confirmed that preparations for the local government elections, scheduled for 19 October 2024, are on track as per the established timetable.
The NUJ Kogi State Chapter Chairman, Comrade Sheidu Ademu highlighted the critical role media management plays in the electoral process.
He urged KOSIEC to ensure full media coverage and transparency, recommending that journalists be adequately tagged for proper monitoring.
Sheidu also commended Governor Ahmed Ododoās administration and emphasised that a transparent election would further boost the Governorās credibility.
