NEMA assures Kogi flood victims of adequate support, tours IDP camps.

The Director General of National Emergency Management Agency Zubaida Umar has assured the flood victims in kogi state of adequate care and support to mitigate the hardship.
The Director General, gave the assurance in Lokoja on Thursday when the team visited the State for an on-the-spot assessment of the flood disaster in Kogi State.
The DG who was represented by Dele Onimode, who led the NEMA team gave the assurance in Adankolo IDP camp when the team visited the State for an on-the-spot assessment of the flood disaster in Kogi State.
He assured the victims of urgent Federal Government support.
Some flood victims in Adankolo IDP camp decried poor conditions of the camps provided for them by the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA.
According to them, for over three days since they moved into the camp, the supervising agencies such are SEMA is yet to bring food, medicament, and other essentials for flood victims forcing them to feed once a day through individual donations.
They said they were helpless as the assistance promised by the state government in its sensitisation messages has not yet materialised.
One of the flood victims who identified herself as Fatima said
“We are dying here and we need the government to come to our aid. No doubt, we have been displaced from our homes, but the government should not turn their back on us because we need help.
For over three days now, most of us here at the IDP camp have been leaving from hand to mouth. No food, water, electricity or good cloth to wear.
“Many of us have lost most of our properties. In this camp, we don’t have access to good toilet system which is dangerous to our health. The government should as a matter of urgency help us before things gets out of hand”
Meanwhile, the Kogi State Executive Secretary of SEMA, Alhaji Mouktar Atimah, who was in company of the NEMA team said the Government is making arrangement to assist those affected by the flood in the State.
“Why we have not started supplying relief materials to the victims is because we have not completed the documentation and registration of the victims. As soon as that is done, actions would be taken to alleviate their sufferings in the camps” he noted
Atimah assured the IDPs, particularly children and women, who are the most vulnerable, that the state government was aware of their pains and working round the clock to ameliorate their sufferings.
