The Nasarawa chapter of the Union of journalists, NUJ has commended governor Abdullahi Sule for appointing one of their own into cabinet
The Nasarawa chapter of the NUJ made the commendation at a monthly media briefing by the media aide to governor Sule, which held at the press Center on Friday in Lafia.
Members of the Union who unanimously applauded governor Sule for appointing one of its own, Peter Ahemba as his senior special assistant on public affairs, described Ahemba’s appointment as round peg in a round hole.
Members hailed Ahemba for initiating the monthly media briefing to keep media practitioners abreast with government programs and policies which has helped in effective and balanced reportage.
The chairman of the state chapter of the NUJ Alkali…… In a remark thanked Ahemba for his show of professionalism which has bridged the gap and helped media practitioners report activities and programs of the government to the electorates and the world at large.
Media practitioners however appealed to governor Sule to consider practicing journalists in the selection process of who will manage the image of the state and relate with journalists cordially for effective reportage.
Council members regretted that the failure to appoint media professional I the past was the reason the state ministry of information in recent time in plunged into a hush.
“I don’t even know the name or the person of the outgone commissioner of information”, cross session of council members exclaimed!
members of the council reinstated their readiness to step up partnership with the state government to project activities of government more so with the influx of investors into the state in recent times.
It could be recalled that since Peter Ahemba, who was the immediate reporter with Nigerian Pilot was appointed as the senior special assistant to the governor, regular media briefing on government programs and policies was initiated to keep media practitioners informed.
