* commiserates Catholics over Demise of Pope Francis.

The synod of the diocese of Lokoja church Nigerian Anglican communion has decried the new normal of Nigerian politics which has become a new religion lacking capacity to work for the overall development and growth of the nation.
This is just as the church has called for intense prayers and to vigorously pursue the course of peace and security to make the country a safer place for all the people.
The church made the disclosure at the end of the first session of her eleventh synod held from 25th to 27th April 2025 in Lokoja
The first session of the Eleventh synod which was supritended by His Grace, The Most Rev’d Emanuel A.S. Egbunu Ph.D with the theme : Peace with God. The Victory of the Atonement, commiserated
with the Catholic faithfuls over the transition of Pope Francis.
According to the communiqué at the end of the session, the synod described the late Pope as a man of Faith and godliness.
The Synod also commended Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his prompt and regular payment of salaries and pensions in the state and urge him to sustain the gesture.
The synod which affirmed that the true redemptive work for man can only be obtained through our Lord Jesus Christ advising the people to pursue peace relentlessly while assuring of obtaining same.
“Christians should remain continually prayerful as it is a sine qua non for attaining peace and should make peace with one another, with their communities and their country before peace can be made with God and should promote the same.
“The Synod observes that God loves Nigeria, but the Country is racing down a dangerous precipice due to lack of integrity, sincerity, discipline; and our propensity at defending the indefensible. Synod, therefore, calls on citizens to make peace with God through repentance.
‘The Synod laments that the new “religion” (politics) has taken a stronger grip on the minds and conscience of Nigerians in blatant disregard of Godly values, decency and fair play. “Synod therefore calls on Nigerians to revert to Godly values, decency and decorum”
While tasking the administration of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu to demonstrate the requisite political will to combat the security situation, decried the current situation that citizens have lost confidence that Government at all levels lacked capacity to protect lives and property is most uncharitable.
The synod also noted the place of kogi state as being the natural heart of Nigeria,called on the government to take proactive measures towards making the state a model for multilateral developments.
The Synod urges Government to take immediate steps to avert further tragedies on the Felele highway, which has become a deathtrap.
The Synod however expresses shock with the hostile attitude of some Government officials toward efforts of the Diocese to develop educational institutions for the benefit of all, particularly their constant thrrats to revoke the Diocesan land at Zone 8, Lokoja in spite of the earlier release of a large portion of the land to Government.
The communiqué further informed that the role of the church is not only for spiritual but also for psychomotor activities, and as such, a football competition named after The Most Rev’d Emmanuel A.S. Egbunu will be competed for by the Youth in the Diocese.
While commending the government for the introduction of Interreligious Council, which should be constantly strengthened in the interest of religious harmony in the State urged for the immortalisation of Bishop Ajayi Crowther, in Kogi State.
