The Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV, has appealed to the Nigerian Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) to provide ferry services for the upcoming seven-day fidau prayer in honour of the late Etsu Bassa-Nge, HRH Abu Ali, who passed away last Monday.
The royal father made the appeal in a statement personally signed and made available to newsmen in Lokoja on Wednesday.
Alhaji Maikarfi explained that the home of the late Etsu, located along the river, will host a large number of dignitaries, making ferry transport the most feasible and practical means of conveyance.
“The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe, and other traditional rulers are among the dignitaries expected to attend the prayer,” he said.
The Maigari also urged NIWA to ensure the repair and readiness of some of their ferries to guarantee the safety of all guests attending the ceremony.
He emphasized that the cooperation of the waterways authority is critical for the smooth and safe conduct of the seven-day fidau prayer, which is expected to draw participants from across the country.
NIWA has yet to respond to the appeal as of press time.
