PHD for Vice Chancellorship  ; NMA threatens to withdraw members from medical colleges.

As the war between Nigerian Doctors and ASUU over possession of PHD certificate as cretaria for the appointment of vice chancellors of Nigeria Universities rages , the Nigeria Medical Association has threatens to withdraw their members from medical colleges if the imbroglio is not resolved.
The president of NMA professor. Innocent Ujah has faulted the statement credited to president of ASUU , Professor Emmanuel Osodeke that medical fellowship is inferior to PHD and should not be considered for the appointment of vice chancellors of Nigeria Universities.

In a statement by NMA President, Prof. Innocent Ujah, the association argued that PhD was inferior to the post-doctoral medical fellowship of the National Medical College of Nigeria (NMCN) and the West African Postgraduate Medical College (WAPMC).or any recognised foreign postgraduate medical college. as its content “is already over represented in depth and research.”

It said the qualifications from NMCN and WAPMC are internationally recognised for practice, teaching and advanced research in medical schools and beyond.

It, therefore, called on Osodeke to put his house in order, stressing that the NMA would not tolerate utterances and actions that could force it to withdraw its members from ASUU and medical schools completely.

“He and National Universities Commission (NUC) can recruit PhD holders to teach and train medical doctors for the university and the health sector,” the statement added.
