NNPC Roads Rehabilitation; Group Frowns Exclusion of Roads in Kogi.

The Convener, Congress For Better Nigeria, CFBN , Barr.Dare Michael, has frowned at the approval granted to Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation NNPC to rehabilitate some Federal Roads across the Country without factoring Roads in Kogi state in the project.

Speaking with Newsmen in Lokoja on Thursday Barr. Dare Michael lamented that for a State that has borders with ten States and a heavy daily traffic from North and South, described the policy as ill conceived by excluding Kogi state from the largesse.

The Convener advise the Federal Government to have a rethink and capture many deplorable Federal roads in Kogi, to stop the youths in the state from being compellled to embark on a legitimate protest .

He blamed the Minister for Works and Housing for his failure to present seemingly bad roads dotting the state to Federal Executive Council for approval.

The Convener called on the Federal Government to complement the efforts of Gov. Yahaya Bello who has done well in road construction, adding that quick intervention by the Federal Government would avert the proposed barricade of the Federal Roads in the state by the youths.

Barr. Dare listed some of the deplorable roads in the state to include, Kabba — Isanlu to Ilorin road, Kabba-Iyara-Omuo; Okene-Auchi that ought to receive federal government attention because of its strategic economic importance to the country.

He explained that the daily traffic of articulated vehicles on the roads occasioned by the presence of Obajana Cement Company and BUA cement factory at Okpela as factors affecting longevity of roads in the state.

Recalled that the Minister,while briefing the state House Correspondent yesterday, said the approval was a strategic intervention to fix some roads across the country adding that nine of the selected projects were in North-Central, three in North-East, two in North-West, two in South-East, three in South-South, and two in South-
Meanwhile, the total sum of N621.2bn has been approved by the Federal Executive Council which the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation will use for the reconstruction of 21 federal roads in the country.
