Niger pensioners lament unpaid Gratuity,.
The Association of pensioners in Niger state has sent passionate appeal to the Niger state Governor Abubakar Sani Bello to as matter of importance look into the plights of retiree’s in the state by paying them their gratuities.
The Secretary of Nigeria Union of Pentioners, NUP Niger state chapter,Comrade Abdullahi Baba Sani, in an intreview with Newsmen in Minna stated that civil servants who have served meritoriously for thirty five years are been denied their entitlements.
The Secretary Comrade Abdullahi Baba Sani described the situation as worrisome and unacceptable adding that retiree’s are dying on daily basis without receiving their gratuities and those in rented house’s are been evicted becouse they can not pay their rent, hence the needs Governor Abubakakar Sani Bello to take stringent measure in addressing the issue.
The Secretary of the Union advised that the state Governor should use part of the nineteen billion naira made available to States by the Federal government to settle gratuities as it will put a lot of smile on the face of Senior citizens in the state.
He mentioned that the Union appreciate the efforts of the state government for paying thirty percent to those who retired earlier, stressing that the Governor should do the needful by paying them the balance of seventy percent 70% and those who are yet to be captured be paid one hundred percent 100% of their gratuities.
He then stressed that since the inception of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello’s administration in 2015 to date only few number of retiree’s where paid thirty percent 30% of their gratuities despite all the bail out and Federal government financial assistance to States to pay salaries and pension.
He further appealed to retirees in the state to be patient with the Government as the Union is leaving no stone unturned to see that their challenges are been addressed by the Government.
