Niger NLC denies endorsing any Aspirant.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Niger State chapter, has called on the public to disregard claims of its endorsement of any aspirant. In a statement, yesterday, the organised labour expressed determination to change the political narrative in the country by ensuring that only aspirants with integrity, credibility, pedigree and implementable blueprint are elected into office in the 2023 ballot.
The statement signed by Niger NLC Chairman, Yakubu Garba, and his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Ibrahim Gana, in Minna, noted that the union had put in place a political commission with structures down to polling unit levels for the purpose of the 2023 general elections, in line with the directive of NLC and TUC national body.
It explained that Niger NLC had hosted governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly aspirant, in the run up to the elections, which, according to him, is a long held tradition in the state.
Also, the union said it would participate actively in the process of electing genuine and credible leaders in 2023. Garba disclosed this during activities marking the 2022 International Workers’ Day Celebration, in Minna.
He explained that this year’s Workers’ Day, themed ‘Labour, Politics and the Quest for Good Governance and Development in Nigeria’, was to reflect on the resolve of organised labour to fully participate in political decision-making, proper participation in politicking to ensure that only credible candidates emerge as political office holders in 2023.
“Labour leaders must ensure that the electoral process is not left in the hands of the political class. We must ensure that we participate actively to enable us elect responsible and transparent leaders to move Nigeria out of her numerous problems,” Yakubu said.
Niger NLC inaugurated a think tank political commission to mobilise the members from ward, local council, state, non-formal sector, affiliate labour unions, as well as friends of labour to ensure that they participate in political activities.
