Niger state government have been called upon to as a matter of urgency improve on the Teachers’ welfare to enable them boast educational performance of students in the state as they Mark 28th Anniversary of World Teacher’s day celebration globally.
The Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Niger state council, Comrade Idrees Abdulkareem Lafene stated this in his speech delivered to commemorate the World teacher’s day celebration in Minna recently.
The Chairman Comrade Abdulkareem Lafene mentioned that as this year’s celebration;l of World teacher’s day, with the theme, “the transformation of education begins with teachers” necessitate for the call for deep reflection from stakeholders in the Education Sector most especially in the State to invest hugely in the sector as government alone can not do it.
“In other for teachers to properly connect with the theme, there is urgent need for the government to change the narrative by involving individuals and philanthropy to boast the sector in the state”.
He explained that “if government want to get it right in the educational sector in the state,it Most live up to it expectation in meeting the most basic welfare needs of teachers including payment of equitable salaries and decent working conditions for them.
The Chairman stressed that Teachers in the State are made to work under unfavorable conditions without adequate compensation yet they remain in class due to patriotism and desire to serve humanity, hence government to change the narrative by improving on their welfare.
He said that In the spirit of the Teachers Day, “we passionately appeal to His Excellency, the Executive Governor, Alh. Abubakar Sani Bello to review the teachers’ salaries as was done for other cadres and in addition to implementation of full TSS salary structures for the teacher’s..
