*Insecurity in Bunu Land:. Braimoh bemoans lackadaisical attitudes of State Government Appointees from Bunu.
The former candidate of Action Alliance Candidate for the 2023 Kogi State Governorship election, Olayinka Braimah has condemned the senseless killings and kidnappings of Bunu people for ransom, criticizing the Kogi State government and appointees from Bunu land for their lukewarm attitude towards these heinous acts.
- In a statement issued from his office on Monday, Braimoh said, “The peaceful nature of Bunu people in Kabba-Bunu local government area of Kogi State has been trampled by unknown gunmen who are killing and abducting them at an alarming rate. It is so bad to realize that apart from their inability to go to their farms again, every community now keeps vigil, running security shifts to secure the land. We have not seen any meaningful efforts from the government. Regrettably, nothing serious has been heard from the government appointees from Bunu land. Their only contribution is to praise the government while our people suffer in silence.”
He further said, “I received a report of one of our brothers who was shot by these criminal elements in the Ape community. While he battles for his life in the hospital, his wife and four-month-old child are still being held in captivity. The kidnappers are demanding N50m. In the same vein, the Youth Leader of Apaa Community, Olorunmola, popularly known as Lawlee, was murdered in cold blood by another group of unknown gunmen who ambushed him and a white contractor overseeing a construction project in the area. While in Ayegunle community, another person by the name of Mr. Francis was also reported to have been kidnapped by these ruthless attaccker demanding a huge ransom. All of these are happening in Bunu land.”
“Where is the State government appointees in all these?. We only hear about their supposed efforts on social media, yet we see nothing on the ground. If the State governor was from Bunu land, would the status quo have been maintained? Where are these all the government appointees from Bunu district who continue to pretend to be cheerleaders while our people are dying in silence?
“We will keep calling for significant actions to be taken by the federal government since the state doesn’t seek to be bothered by these absurdities. In the meantime, let’s face the reality and rally round our local hunters with all the resources while waiting for the federal government to come to our aid. Our silence or pretence is counterproductive, and if we are not careful, a day will come when those of us outside Bunu land will not be able to come back home. The time is now,” he said.
