In a significant political development, the Coalition of Non-Indigenes in Edo State has officially declared its support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the upcoming gubernatorial election. The group has directed its members across all 18 Local Government Areas to vote for Senator Monday Okpebholo and Hon. Dennis Idahosa as Governor and Deputy Governor respectively in the September 21, 2024 polls.
The announcement came through a press statement issued by the coalition’s Public Relations Officer, Hon. Adetunji Joseph, following a meeting in Benin City. The group expressed dissatisfaction with the current administration under Governor Godwin Obaseki, stating that it “has not done well to deserve the continuity of his maladministration through the installation of Asue Ighodalo.”
Citing a decline in their businesses and what they perceive as unfavorable policies, the non-indigene community in Edo State emphasized their belief in Senator Okpebholo’s campaign promises. “As a current Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Monday Okpebholo has proven to be tested and trusted. He will surely deliver the dividends of democracy to the good people of Edo State,” the statement read.
The coalition criticized the current government’s approach, describing it as focused on “theoretical policies and signing of memorandums that cannot provide food on the table of the common man in Edo State.” They expressed confidence in an APC victory, pledging not only to vote but also to protect their votes.
