Concerned Yagba citizens set to tackle politics, insecurity, underdevelopment of Yagba land.
A group under the aegis of Yagba Concerned Citizens has called on stakeholders to ensure that issues of leadership, development and insecurity affecting the zone are brought to the front burner for the rapid transformation of the area.
This is just as it highlighted a comprehensive approach to addressing kidnapping, community safety, and peace building, as a sine qua non for the growth of the region.
These were the summations of a 2 day virtual summit by the Yagba Concerned Citizens of the two Yagba Local Government Council Areas of kogi state over the weekend.
According to the chairman and convener of the summit, chief Olure Peter Olawale disclosed the essence of the summit which is to raise consciousness of the people toward matters affecting the Yagba region and to proffer workable solutions to them
The summit according to him has emphasised the need for effective leadership to drive sustainable development in the Yagba region while acknowledging the role of effective leadership inclusiveness, transparency and accountability that would reflect the diversity of the constituency and ensuring equitable representation across all regions.
The summit however approved the establishment of a leadership training and mentoring program for emerging leaders.
“A commitment to fostering unity and collaboration across political and social lines.Promotion of effective communication between government officials and citizens.Promotion of the Yagba Traditional Council under the jurisdiction of Oba Yagba, which would rotate among the three chairmen of the Traditional Councils of the three Local Government Areas.
” This body will be funded by the office of the House of Representatives, the three House of Assembly members, and the three Council Chairmen, until it is gazetted by the State Government and ratified by the State House of Assembly.
” Establishment of an annual ‘Yagba Cultural Day,’ where all cultures in Yagba Land will be showcased globally” the summit noted.
On the issue of security, the summit highlighted the importance of a comprehensive approach to addressing crimes such as kidnapping, community safety, and peace building and a strong collaboration between law enforcement agencies, local leaders, and the general publics should be in the front burner among the people.
The discussants decried the border porosity, lack of personal safety education, the absence of a special squad to address kidnapping, the indiscriminate sale of land, and poor management of information relating to past kidnapping were factors militating against peace and development of Yagba Land.
Meanwhile, the summit was successfully attended by academicians, professionals, political and traditional leaders, representatives of non-indigenes, union leaders, community representatives, and students, among whom were Hon. Abidemi Adeyemi, Director of Finance at the Niger River Basin Development Authority, Mr. Lawrence Adenipekun, PhD, Department of Political Science Afe-Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, and Chief Olure Peter Olawale, CEO of Five Os Security Nigeria Limited.
