Insecurity; Army Barracks most secured.

Despite the prevailing activities of Boko Haram in the North East, banditry in the North West and North central zones and Kidnapping in the Southern part of the country, Commander , Training and Doctrine Command TRADOC, Major General Olugbenga Olabanji has said military Barracks are the safest in the country.
“I make bold to say that the Nigerian Army barracks still remain the safest place anywhere in this country and we must strive to ensure that the highest form of security is emplaced and also sustained”.
Speaking at a “Security Awareness seminar for Barracks Community” at the TRADOC headquarters in Minna the Niger state capital on Wednesday Olubanji said though the Barracks are safe the presence of none military men can make the Barracks to be porous security wise hence the reason for the organisation of the seminar.
Olubanji declared: The diverse nature of the people who visit the Barracks on daily basis means we no longer live in isolation and as such we must become deliberate in creating this security awareness for our families and friends
” This seminar is necessary now because the barracks is no longer just a habitation area for military personnel but now a community. We now have within the barracks community thriving businesses, schools, farms and recreational facilities among others that are open to the general public and not limited to military personnel only”.
He said the seminar was therefore to “heighten our level of security awareness and consciousness within the barracks as well as equip us to stern out petty crimes within barracks community”.
The Commander noted that “Nigeria is currently grappling with security challenges ranging from armed robbery, banditry activities, kidnappings, cattle rustling, insurgency and terrorism which he said has necessitated the deployment of the military and other paramilitary organisations across the country but observed that the security situation ” is not peculiar and limited to Nigeria
“We cannot deny the fact that such challenges exist and must be addressed accordingly for sustained peace and progress of every human endeavour” he said
He reminded Nigerians that “Security is everybody’s business” but lamented that ” Majority of Nigerians are yet to see it through this perspective and lens”.
Olubanji said the consequences of insecurity are all encompassing adding that ” insecurity knows no race tribe or religion and must be approached as such”
The seminar later went into an interractive session.
