Against the backdrop of incessant violent clashes between the Army and police personnel, the Nigerian Army has begun moves to stem the tides.
Consequently, the Army Authority may have directed all its Corps, formations and establishments across the country to forward to the Army Headquarters, all incidences of Police brutality against her Personnel in the course of performing their civic duties to the nation.
Treasuretimes authoritatively scooped that the Army is worried over the inter agency envy of the police against her Personnel which often lead to physical harm.
The Army therefore, directed all formations to forward the returns which will cover these incidences in the past two years to the Army Headquarters for evaluation and appropriate action to stem the tide.
Reacting to the Directives by the Army, the Inspector General of Police IGP Usman Alkali Baba has directed its relevant departments to compile a balanced feedback which will inform an authentic statistics of the clashes.
He noted that the feedback/ input should summarise the narratives on Police – Army and Army – Police altercations over a specified period of time.
The IG, however charged the Research and Statistics Department of the Nigeria Police in the Team to work hard on the analysis in order to achieving stated research objectives in an all relevant and inclusive stakeholders approach.
He called on the officers and men to take the Directives in good faith, saying it will help to improve the relationship.
