Shiroro Roundabout contract not inflated — Works Commissioner.

Yahaya Zakka Minna

Niger state commissioner for Works and Infrastructure Development, Hon. Mamman Musa said the Shiroro junction round about in Minna earmarked for N164m has other components that justify the contract sum.

The commissioner made the clarification yesterday while addressing journalists in his office.

He said the criticisms that trailed the announcement of the contract sum was actually done in error as there were other components that are added in the construction of the round about.

The commissioner explained that under ground drainages and water works around the round about, including the lighting system formed part of the contract sum.

He further disclosed that physical structures near the construction site will give away for the round about, with attendant cost for compensations.

He said the PDP secretariat and part of the structure housing the transmission line of the PHCN will be affected hence the reason why the cost of the project was high.

Hon Mamman Musa said the round about was not going to be a small one but a huge one that will carry all the accessories of a modern round about. “It’s not going to be a small round about as you think. Many other structures are going to give way for the massive project. We are very realistic, we’re prudent here and at end we will be proving right”, he said.

He said the governor was aware of the kind of work involved saying “and that’s why before he approve the request he has to scrutinize over and over to be convinced that the project justify the amount, “I want to tell you that the project bill is not over blown as the rotary intersection is concerned” he explained.

The commissioner said the present government was not the wasteful type as every penny was been managed to achieve the best for the state, adding no responsible government will do in this period of dwindling fortunes.
