The Kogi state command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC has disclosed that the law that established the Corps empowers her to prosecute offenders without recourse to other security Agencies.

The public Relation officer of the Command CSD. Alex Agiri gave the clarification on Thursday in Lokoja, while speaking to Newsmen on the story by an online medium with the caption ” NSCDC Nabs suspected Fake Army, in which the writer erroneously said the suspect will be handed over to the police for prosecution.

Agiri explained that the extant laws of the Corps empowers her to arrest with or without a warrant , detain , investigate and institute legal proceedings by or in the name of the Attorney-General of the Federation in accordance with the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He added that the NSCDC can exercise this power against any person who is reasonably suspected to have committed an offence under this Act or is involved in any:
(i)Criminal activity
(ii)Chemical poison or oil spillage nuclear waste, poisoning etc.

The PRO therefore advise the general public to discountenance the report as the corps poccess all the powers under the enabling law to prosecute offenders without handing over to the police as aeroneasly captured in the last paragraph of the story.
