In a bid to prevent avoidable deaths of expectant mothers during child births, senator Smart Adeyemi has launched a Healthcare Insurance Scheme for pregnant women to boost reproductive health across seven Local Government Areas in kogi west senatorial Zone of the state.
Senator Adeyemi while flagging off the scheme in Lokoja on Tuesday said the scheme was to complement the effort of Governor Yahaya Bello who had earlier launched the scheme across the state to ensure that expectant mothers and children enjoy pre and post natal health facilities.
The senator noted that the scheme is his modest contributions to safe motherhood as he has earmarked one thousand women across the zone to be the first beneficiaries ,stressing that he will continue to work hard for women not to die from child birth.
He added that before the end of the year , similar scheme for the elderly of 70years and above will be instituted to take care of their health.
He promise to reactivate bursary scheme for students of tertiary institutions of his zone to help indigents students to realise their God given destinies so as to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state and the country at large.
He disclosed that he has commenced negotiation with the Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola with the intent to start reconstruction and rehabilitation of deplorable federal roads in the state.
He assured the people that he will work assiduously to improve their well-beings , saying he was conversant with the onerous task before him as he had hit the ball rolling with schemes that could impact positively on the people.
He added that he has equally commenced constructive engagement with relevant agencies for the establishment of an Airport in the state.
The lawmaker who used the occasion to appeal to members of the All Progressive Congress APC to calm their nerves over the last weekend ward Congress , urging them to join hands to move the party forward
According to him” No matter what we think happened from the fall out of the ward Congress, our party APC is bigger than an individual, hence , all hands must be on deck not to give rooms to sentiments that could distablise the party.” He appealed.
Meanwhile, he commended Governor Yahaya Bello for his pragmatic approach to development of infrastructures and all areas of the state economy.
He added that unlike his counterparts who after winning the second tenure would not pay attention to development, but he has renewed with vigour his commitment to creating a new Kogi with his people oriented programmes across the state.
He urged the governor to continue with his good work as the people of the state are solidly behind him in his task to leave the state better than he met it.
Earlier, the Secretary to the state Government SSG Mrs Folashade Ayoade Arike , said , Senator Smart Adeyemi ,with the launch of scheme has demonstrated uncommon desire to save his people especially pregnant women from avoidable deaths .
She admonished the benefiting women to consider themselve as being lucky and to maximise the scheme to bring forth responsible children and warned them not to indulge in unplanned pregnancies.
