Niger State House of Assembly has thrown its weight behind the North Central youths, under the auspices of “North Central Renaissance Movement” agitating for the geopolitical zone to produce the next president of the country.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdullahi Bawa Wuse, while welcoming the group who were on an advocacy visit to the House, said their agitation for the North Central to produce the next president for the country, come 2023, was in order.
The Speaker who was represented by his deputy, Hon. Jibrin Ndagi-Baba, argued that the geopolitical zone has never benefited from the democratic settings of the presidency, adding that the zone had never produced a democratically elected vice president, talk more of the president, despite always giving support to the other geopolitical zones.
He said this was the right time to agitate for the leadership of the country, asserting that the North Central could boast of enormous competent hands capable of doing better than those that have been there before and could easily fit into IBB’s description of the next president desirable for Nigeria.
“We have competent hands in the North Central and even in terms of age you are talking about, we also have those who are within that age with capacity.
“We believe if those people are given the chance, they can do better than those there before. “With that, it doesn’t stop us from agitating for the mantle of leadership as a North Central,” the Speaker maintained.
He however, advised the group not to limit their advocacy to only the states in the North Central, but to carry the campaign to all the geopolitical zones of the country.
Earlier, the spokesman of the group, High Chief, Onoja Alexander David, said North Central Renaissance Movement was all about emancipation of North Central people.
“We want to have a share in the distribution of political leadership in Nigeria.
“Since 1960, we have never produced a democratically elected president, not even a vice president, we have always been party chairpersons, now, we are coming together to say
enough is enough,” the spokesman declared.
He added that they were at the centre and have supported Nigerians, kept Nigeria together and now is the time to produce the next president, assuring that, if given the opportunity, the issue of insecurity and poverty would be a thing of the past.
