…. promises focus on infrastructure, youth employment, healthcare, education and agricultural development
Engr. Samson Cofton, a House of Representatives candidate for Ajaokuta Federal Constituency under the platform of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), has outlined an agenda centred on economic relief, infrastructure development, job creation and improved access to essential social services.
Cofton said his proposed legislative agenda would focus on addressing economic hardship confronting residents of the constituency through empowerment initiatives, relief packages and policies aimed at improving living conditions.
He identified the provision of basic infrastructure, including accessible roads, potable water and affordable transportation, as key areas requiring attention, noting that improved infrastructure would help ease the difficulties faced by residents and support economic activities across communities.
On employment and economic empowerment, the YPP candidate proposed initiatives to create job opportunities, provide vocational and skills-acquisition training, and establish trading facilities to support small-scale businesses, artisans and other entrepreneurs.
He also listed improved access to healthcare as a priority, proposing adequate medical facilities and affordable treatment to reduce the burden of healthcare costs on families, particularly vulnerable members of the constituency.
In the education sector, Cofton proposed assistance with the payment of examination fees for students sitting the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), National Examinations Council (NECO) and National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) examinations.
He said such intervention would help reduce the financial pressure on parents and guardians while providing students from less-privileged backgrounds with opportunities to complete their secondary education and pursue further studies.
Agriculture also featured prominently in his proposed development agenda, with emphasis on providing farmers with improved agricultural facilities and support to enhance productivity, strengthen food security and expand economic opportunities in rural communities.
The candidate’s proposals further highlight the need to connect social intervention programmes with sustainable economic development, particularly through skills development, support for local businesses and improved agricultural productivity.
Cofton’s outlined priorities place emphasis on economic recovery, social welfare and infrastructure as major issues for Ajaokuta Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He is seeking to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives on the platform of the YPP.
