WOPU United to Celebrate Adeboye’s High Patriotic Disposition Abroad Working People United (WoPU), a coalition of patriots from organised labour unions, professionals, artisans, traders, and stakeholders across key sectors of the Nigerian economy, has announced its decision to confer its Responsible Citizen Badge on Pastor Enoch Adeboye in recognition of his courageous and statesmanlike defence of developments in Nigeria particularly regarding insecurity in the country. The decision follows remarks credited to Pastor Adeboye during the US–Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala in Washington, where he responded to criticism of the President’s handling of national security. In his remarks, Pastor Adeboye stated that he does not support claims that the President has not done enough in the fight against insecurity. He stressed that once the Commander-in-Chief has issued directives, responsibility for execution lies with the relevant security agencies, noting that the President is not expected to “put on khaki.” He further explained the role of a Commander-in-Chief as one of strategic leadership and direction, while operational responsibilities rest with security institutions tasked with implementation. Working People United described the comments as patriotic and show of high level of responsiveness, noting that it reinforces constitutional clarity on executive responsibility while encouraging institutional accountability in addressing national security challenges. According to WoPU, the remarks also contribute to a more balanced national discourse at a time when Nigeria continues to face complex security challenges that require unity of purpose, clear allocation of responsibility, and coordinated action across institutions. Speaking on the honour, the Convener of WoPU Comrade Prince Akporeha Williams, said Pastor Adeboye’s position reflects courage, moral clarity, and a deep commitment to national cohesion. Unlike others who have gone beyond the shores of the country to badmouth and portray the country negatively to gain popularity. “Pastor Adeboye has consistently demonstrated leadership that extends beyond the pulpit. His voice in moments of national tension reflects responsibility, wisdom, and a sincere commitment to the stability and progress of Nigeria,” the Convener stated. WoPU further explained that the Responsible Citizen Badge Award is a symbol of recognition for individuals whose public engagement strengthens unity, promotes responsible leadership, and advances constructive national dialogue. WoPU emphasised that the honour, which was unveiled at their Good Governance summit on June 25, 2026 at Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre is civic in nature and not political, but a recognition of voices that contribute meaningfully to peace, accountability, and national development.
