Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has approved the appointment of Muhammad Barau Kontagora as the seventh Emir Of Kontagora.
Niger State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Mr. Emanuel Umar who announced the appointment on behalf of the Niger State
Government during a Press briefing at the Goverment House Minna, said the appointment of Muhammad Barau Kontagora, followed a meeting held with the Governor and the kingmakers of Kontagora emirate and consultations with the Niger state Council of Traditional rulers.
The Commissioner revealed that the kingmakers during their interaction with the Governor affirmed that the selection of the new Emir, followed the customary law of Kontagora emirate adding that their decision was based on their own convictions without undue influence.
The Commissioner Emmanuel Umar noted that in line with the powers vested on the Governor, under section three, subsection one of the Chiefs appointment and deposition law chapter nineteen law of Niger State nineteen eighty nine as reversed and all other powers enabling him, has accepted the selection and appointed Muhammad Barau Kontagora, as the seventh Emir of Kontagora Emirates.
