Kogi state commissioner for information and communication, Kingsley Fanwo has disclosed that Governor Yahaya Bello has made history as the first Governor of the state to have built a fly over in the state since its creation, 32 years ago.
Fanwo made the disclosure on Saturday when the members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, kogi Council, embarked on projects assessment tour as part of activities to commemorate the seven years of the administration of Gov’ Yahaya Bello.
The commissioner while explaining the exigency of the construction of the interjection bridge at the popular Ganaja junction in the lokoja metropolis, said the bridge has brought down traffic gridlock and restore aesthetic and scenic beauty of the city.
He disclosed that the menace of the traffic jam at the Ganaja junction has hitherto became embarrassment to the road users, hence, the government swung into action and awarded the contract to ameliorate the suffering of the people.
He said through efficient and accountable management of resources by present administration, it was able to execute the project with the cost much, more lower than what was offered by the past government.
He said, the action of the governor has solved the twin problems of traffic jam and slum through prudent application of public resources.
According to the information commissioner, the former Ganaja junction has brought lots of hazards to both the people of the state and motorists who crisscross the road on daily basis.
” With the construction of this interjection, the government has been able to achieve twin benefits. We have solved traffic jam and created aesthetic and scenic beauty to the landscape. What we have here has made Lokoja, the state capital to wear new looks.
” In as much as we want to sound modest, you would not believe me. What was quoted in 2015 by the past administration was much more higher than what we delivered.
” We have been able to achieve this world class edifice through economic and efficient allocation of resources. And as far as this administration is concerned Governor Yahaya Bello has made history as the first kogi Governor to build a flyover in the state since its inception in 1991.” He informed.
Meanwhile, at the GYB Model Science Secondary school Adankolo, the commissioner for Education, science and Technology, Wemi Jones, said this Special Science Secondary school was conceived to serve as feed stock to the Confluence University of Science and Technology Osara.
He added that it would be a waste of resources being committed to the building of this world class university which is devoid of strike only to be populated by students of other states to enjoy facilities equivalent to private universities with low tuition of a public universities.
He explained that in attempt to arrest in the bud the ugly situation the Governor decided to build special science schools across the state to provide students population that will fill the admission spaces.
The commissioner said, apart from GYB Model Science College, four other ones have been constructed across the state, while six others are billed to spring up soonest.
He averred that the aim of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics, STEM is to produce secondary school graduates who are knowledgeable in sciences and that is why the governor is giving serious attention to science and technology education in the state.
He said the GYB college is the first of its kind across the Niger as it boasts of a standard computer Laboratory; Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agriculture; Home economic and language laboratories, making it the darling of parents and students across the state.
He added that the school has provided a paradgm shift as parents in their numbers withdrew their children and wards from the private schools to it, stressing that Governor Bello’s thinking is for public schools to be heavily resourced that will be attractive to parents and students above private schools.
According to the commissioner, ” Who knows , the Federal Government may decide to review Land Use Act, transfering powers to exploits natural resources found in the state by the state .And if this happens and kogi state is not proactive by training enough manpowers, the state would be at a loss when the law is amended in favour of the states.
” We must have to tailor our Education to Science and Technology, – which is the way to go – to be able to meet up with revolution that will take place in the nearest future. With this schools to catch them young , the state is highly prepared to meet the future opportunities.” He assured.
Meanwhile, at the Confluence University of Science and Technology Osara, the Vice Chancellor, Engineer Professor Salawu Sadiku took Journalists round the campus with gigantic buildings being executed by the state government and the StetFund.
The vice Chancellor noted that the university came into being to give the indigenes opportunity to access higher Education, as many universities in the catchment zones could not cope with high admission seekers from the state.
He said , the University was conceived to offer training in the modern aspect of sciences and Technology that will provide graduates with the needed skills that will make them competitive across the globe.
Highlights of the Tour was the inspection of the ultra modern Reference Hospital Okene , which is equipped with modern gatgets capable of handling most complex of ailments.
While commending the Governor for the masses oriented projects, the Chairman of NUJ, Kogi state Council, Comrade MomohJimoh Adeiza , said the visit has afforded his Members with the right perspective of the activities of this administration in the last seven years.
