Naira Redesign a class war that shouldn’t involve masses — NLC President.
The President of Nigeria Labour Congress,NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero has described the ongoing naira swap as a class struggle that shouldn’t have involved poor masses who are struggling for survival under the yoke of thirty thousand naira minimum wage.
The NLC president made the charge on Monday during the commissioning of newly constructed Kogi state secretariat of the Union in Lokoja.
The president who was represented by the General Secretary of the Union, Comrade Emmanuel Ogwaja, berated the ruling class for involving the poor workers in their quest to outdo each other in the name of currency redesign, saying no worker has excess liquidity that will keep them outside the banking sector.
He said in as much as he wouldn’t want to join issues with the policy, he said the policy makers knows those who have allegedly stashed the money in their private vaults.
According to him” Workers that are burdened by the insufficient salary which cannot put decent food on their tables would have the luxury of stashing away the money. The essence of the Naira swap is nothing but a class struggle. Workers are not part of the struggle and should not be drawn into the war.
” If the policy makers are sincere, they should beam their searchlight on the economic saboteurs instead of causing untold hardship on the hapless workers and citizenry.
” We will not be drawn into the supreme court judgement. Those going to court are those that have the money. No one can steal the mandate of workers, and at the appropriate time judgement will be served in favour of workers. Many days as the saying goes is for the thieves but one day for the owners ” He said.
The number one labour leader in the country, who is performing his first official function outside headquarters after his election last week, commended the leadership of NLC under Comrade Onuh Edoka for his ingenuity in putting up this magnificent structure at a time that the Union is struggling for financial survival.
While urging the Union to cultivate the maintenance culture in order to keep the building afloat at all times, charged workers to adopt the building as their own for its optimal utilisation.
He applauded the Chairman, Comrade Edoka for the unity and peaceful relationship among workers that culminated in her near sole funding of this multi million naira project..
Earlier, the state chairman, Onuh Edoka, thanked the government for their support in whatever measure, even as he disclosed that no dime was deducted from the workers’ salaries.
He added that the building was his modest contribution to enhancing the mental and social wellbeing of workers as the building has become theirs in which no government under any circumstance would be able to deny them access to the property
He commended his predecessors who have not witheld their invaluable advise that led to this success story.
He applauded the building committee, led by comrade Obaka Mairiga for their prudent management of the resources for the project, while advising his successor to continue to add value to the welfare of workers.
