As INEC presents Certificate of Return to 25 House Members Elect.
The member -Elect for Omala Local Government Area state Constituency, Hon Umar Farooq Yahaya has assured his constituents of his preparedness to unless bills and motions that will transform the people , saying the overwhelming mandate given to him would not be toyedĀ with.
He said the people of Omala in their love for him votedĀ across the party lines and promise to dedicate the success to the people by working hard to change the ugly narrative starring people in the face.
He promised to make the youth and women theĀ cardinal objectives of his legislation, stressing that he will doĀ everything possible to provide innovation that will make them masters and owners of their lives.
He however called on those who constested against him during the pollsĀ to join hands with him to provide purposive and purposely direction for the people.
Meanwhile, theĀ Kogi state , Resident Electoral Commissioner, Rec, Dr. Gabriel Hale Longpet has advised the House of Assembly Elect to remain committed to the ideals and motivation that propel them to contest the election.
This is as the twenty fiveĀ members elect received their certificate of return from the independent National Electoral Commission in Kogi state.
The REC gave the admonition on Thursday in Lokoja, when the commission presented certificate of return to members elect.
Dr. Longpet said the journey to contest the election startedĀ two years ago with the campaign process by candidates has finallyĀ came to a climax with the presentation of certificate of return.
He saidĀ their intention to serve their communities may have been the motivation and driving force for them in the first instance to contest, hence, they should repose the confidence the people place on them
He said winning elective position is a call to service and not just to be called Honourables and to lord themselves over the electorate.
He said , elections in the past used to be a game between mutual friends where only one person must definitely emerged as winner , but decried the present situation where elections has become a do or die enterprise.
The INEC boss challengesĀ them to reflect on their campaign promises so as to work assiduously to effect those objectives on the quality of service to be renderedĀ to the communities.
According to him” Don’t abandon your people. Let your commitment to the people should be your driving force. Uphold the code of conduct that guides the House of Assembly and constantly reflect on the essence of your position so as to live above board.
” We in the INEC has no preferred candidate but to provide a level playing ground for all the candidates who presented themselves and we have largely maintained the ideals.
” I challenge you to Strive to address the needs of your people, as there is a lot to beĀ done to improve their living standards. The society is undergoing serious changes and development and you are lucky to be agent ofĀ thatĀ change. Devote yourselves to theĀ advancement ofĀ the course of your people as anything in the negative will spark reactions when you will be going back in four year timeĀ for re-election.” He sermonised.
