OGANENIGU KILLINGS: BARBARIC, SENSELESS AND ANTI HUMANITY– DR. REUBEN ATABOR, SAN.
* Calls for discreet investigation to bring perpetrators to book.
A foremost Governorship Aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Reuben Atabo, SAN has described the violent attack on the Oganenigu Communities in Dekina LGA of Kogi State as barbaric, senseless and a sin against nature.
The PDP aspirant appealled to Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and the Security Agencies in the State to adopt measures that will permanently restore peace to the affected area.
He noted that although the true identities of the perpetrators are yet to be unearth, those who carried out the dastardly act against the peace loving people of Oganenigu Communities , should not be allowed to go scot-free.
He further noted that the recurring orgy of violence carried out by alleged herdsmen against the people which has not being met with the balance of power by the state authorities might have embolden them to attack at will.
He disclosed that in 2016, the sleepy communities of Oganenigu were woken to rounds of gunshots that led to the deaths of many people and arson on their properties, stressing that the proactive action of Gov. Bello at that time was commendable and urged him to re-enact the same feat in the present circumstances that the people have found themselves.
While sympathising with those who lost their loved ones and property, Dr. Reuben Atabo, SAN called for a high level panel of enquiry that will resolve the imbroglio that has kept the people in perpetual fear.
He assured the people that they would not be left alone in their despair as all well-meaning citizens are working assiduously to bring the situation under control.
“I’m very shock to see the level of desecration against humanity. Life is sacrosanct and it is uncalled for , for a man to massacre his fellow man no matter the provocation. The people of Oganenigu whose major occupation is farming were always being drawn into violent conflict by the herders whose mode of rearing their cattle is incongruent with natives. ”
“I therefore appeal to Authorities of the State and Federal Government to swiftly wade into the matter to prevent escalation of the tense situation. I assure you that in your moment of anguish and deprivation, you will not be left alone. I’m going to do whatever is legitimate to bring succuor to you” He assured.
He commended the Security Agencies for their prompt responses to the distress calls, while calling for the establishment of Mobile Police Post and Military forward Operation Base FOB to guarantee safety of the people from the invaders.
