The Kogi State Traditional Council of Chiefs wishes to address a recent publication allegedly authored and endorsed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, which claims that the Kogi Traditional Council condemned the attack on Governor Yahaya Bello
We would like to clarify that the visit of the President of Traditional Rulers was routine and did not involve any official statement regarding an attack in the state. The purpose of the visit led by The Ata Igala was to express gratitude for the trust placed in the traditional rulers as guardians of customs and culture in their respective domains within the state.
As members of the Kogi State Council of Chiefs, our primary role is not that of security agents. Therefore, we cannot condemn or comment on incidents that we are not privy to. Matters concerning security within the state fall under the jurisdiction of security agencies, who are well-equipped to investigate and address such issues. The responsibility lies with them to fulfill their duty diligently.
Whenever necessary, the Kogi State Council of Chiefs will utilize its established communication channels to disseminate any relevant information or interactions between us and the governor to the public.
We kindly request the public to disregard any press releases relating to security breaches, as traditional rulers are not politicians. Instead, we are entrusted with the role of advising political players to ensure the enduring peace and progress of our land.
Signed:
Secretary, Kogi State Council of Chiefs
