In her avowed commitment to restore hope and ameliorate the sufferings of the internally Displaced persons across the state, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has distributed food items and other essential items to the IDP camp in Abejukolo, headquarters of Omala Local Government Council of the state.
Presenting the items to the beneficiaries at the Abejukolo camp, on Thursday , the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hajia Rabi’atu Okute and the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, Hon.Mouktar Atima, said the gesture was in fulfilment of Gov’ Ododo’s promise to change the ugly narrative when he visited the camp earlier in the month.
The officials noted that the visit was aimed at assessing the the condition of the camp and to provide succour for the displaced persons.
The commissioner and the Executive Secretary who were received in audience by the Caretaker Transition Committee chairman of the Council, Hon. Edibo Mark Ameh were happy with situation of the camp.
The Commissioner and Executive Secretary who shared in the plights of the IDPs assured them of the government’s commitment to providing adequate security and safety of their lives and to ensure that they are returned to their homes to continue with the farming activities as rainfall is at its height.
The Duo who were satisfied with facilities in the camp, including provision of water , sanitation and healthcare services, urged camp management not to hesitate to report to government of any shortfall in items required to keep the camp habitable.
Hon .Okute who reiterated the governor’s commitment to supporting the good people of Omala and the affected persons in the IDPs assured safe return to their communities.
While emphasising the importance of collaboration between Non Governmental Organisations, Government institutions and Local Government Authorities to mitigate disasters,Hon. Mouktar Atima, urged them not to dispair, as these collaboration is working tirelessly to constantly address the needs that will guarantee prompt returns to their communities.
In a remark, the Caretaker Chairman of Omala local government, Hon. Edibo Ameh commended Gov’Ododo and the delegation for the donation of edible and medical consumables and assured them that the items will be judiciously distributed.
