Kogi Government unveils   Electricity Regulatory Commission, KERC

In her determination to make electricity available and affordable to the people in line with President Tinubu renew hope agenda, the Kogi State Government has established the Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) to regulate the electricity sector in the state.
This was disclosed on Thursday by the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Engr. Ibrahim Abdwaaris in a statement made available to Journalists in Lokoja, kogi state capital.
The chairman noted that the establishment of the commission was aimed at improving electricity supply, promoting economic growth, fair prices  and enhancing the quality of life for Kogi State residents.
Recall that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had  approved the transfer of regulatory oversight to KERC, marking a significant milestone in the state’s journey towards electricity self-sufficiency.
He said this transfer of regulatory oversight to states is in compliance with the amended Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN) and the Electricity Act 2023 as  amended
According to him, the KERC’s establishment is expected to bring numerous benefits to Kogi State, including improved electricity supply, job creation, and economic growth.
He assured the residents that the Commission will create a regulatory framework that encourages investment, ensures fair competition, and protects consumer interests.
“The Commission is committed to engaging with stakeholders, including electricity consumers, generators, and distributors, to address their concerns. This collaborative approach will ensure that the needs of all stakeholders are taken into account as KERC works towards transforming the electricity sector in Kogi State.
“KERC’s activities will create jobs and stimulate economic growth in Kogi State. The Commission’s focus on promoting economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for residents aligns with the state government’s vision for a prosperous and sustainable future” he assured.
While assuring the people that   his vast track record of excellence and leadership will galvanise and reform the electricity sector , said, the Commission is poised to  drive transformative Socio- economic development  across all the sectors in the state.
Engr. Abdwaaris , however identified core values of KERC to include  I.Integrity: _Upholding ethics and professionalism in electricity market regulation._
G-Good governance: _Ensuring transparency and accountability in decision-making._
E-Efficiency: _Ensuring timely and cost effective delivery of regulatory services for the benefit of stakeholders_
T-Team work: _Fostering teamwork to achieve shared goals and enhance regulatory outcomes even as he disclosed the Commission’s  Motto,which is  “Regulating Power, Transforming Lives,” is a reflection of  its commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of Kogi State residents.
