The Provost, Kogi State College of Education Technical MopaMuro Dr. Victoria Olusola Jagboro , has called on Government at all levels to deploy massive resources to fund Technical Colleges of Education to produce teachers knowledgeable enough to teach science and technology in pupils of Primary and Secondary school Education.,
This is just as the Deputy Provost of the institution , Mr. Michael Odoma tasked the National Commission for Colleges of Education NCCE and other relevant agencies to hasten the approval for the colleges of Education to award both Nigeria Certificate in Education NCE and Bachelors of Education BED to attract more students to the institutions.
The Provost made the call Today at the institution’s Administration office at Gbeleko, Kabba, in Kabba Bunu Local Government Council of the state when she bagged the best performing provost of colleges of Education, North Central Nigeria award by the Education Merit Award.
Dr Jagboro noted that Technical Education has become the life wire for nations development and as such, no country can leap into the future without proper training of students in Science and Technology.
She stated that Children who are the future drivers of the economy should be taught and adapted into Science and Technology at the cradle level of education to guarantee their global competitiveness in a dynamic and ever changing world.
The Provost, a trained nurse who had over 24 years of her productive life in training of young medical professionals, hinted that science and technology has separated the advanced and emerging economies from so the called under developing countries which had deliberately refused to log unto the advance technology and digital derivatives at her perils.
She said, for Nigeria to be counted among the comity of Nations, it must , as a policy, give urgent and decisive attention to institutions, especially the Technical ones which are saddled with the training of Teachers for effective impartation of relevant knowledge to pupils in both Primary and post primary schools.
According to her, effective teachers is a sine qua non for the production of qualitative students who are expected to drive the country into the future.
” We live in ever changing world and our inability to catch up with time, other world would not wait for us but to leave us behind. In the 21st century, we, as a nation are expected to mobilise massive resources to the training of Science and Technology teachers in order to enhance our competitiveness, and this is the only means to be counted with pride among our peers.
” I commend the former Governor of the state , Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello who saw the potentials in me and drew me from my cocoon and brought me to this place to contribute my quota for the development of our global leaders.
” I considered my stewardship in this College of Education Technical as as rare privilege and a task that must be achieved and I thanked my Management staff, Teachers and students for our collective drive to making the institution the best in the Country, the achievement that has earned us this award given by an equally reputable organisation- The Nigeria Merit Award.” She stated
Dr. Jagboro, however, urged the present administration of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo not to relent in providing necessary funds to the school to enable her to continue to deliver its mandate for the growth of the state.
She disclosed that it was not in her character to receive awards, but ,was ambushed by the Nigeria Education Merit Award which had the reputation for spotting people and institutions who are doing the nation proud.
The College of Education administrator, challenged organisation to continue with their good works of recognising only the best and not to merchandise the award to the highest bidders which, she said, would diminish their credibility.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Provost of the college, Mr. Michael Odoma has called on the National Commission for College of Education NCCE, JAMB and all relevant agencies to expedite action on the autonomy of Colleges of Education to award both the Nigeria Certificate in Education NCE and Bachelors of Education BED to attract best brains to the sector.
Mr. Odoma noted that the approval has become necessary to arrest the brain drain of teachers and apathy of students seek admission into the colleges of education.
According to him, statistics has shown that the best admission seekers no longer subscribe to Colleges of Education as first choice as only those without options are left to populate the colleges of education, lamenting that the situation portend grave dangers to the quality of education in the country.
Earlier, the Chief operation officer, of Nigeria Education Merit Award, Asiwaju Bamidele Temidayo, hinted that he had carefully studied the antecedents of the recipients who have proved their mettle and he has no cause not to bestow this award of excellence on them.
He encouraged them to continue to give their best to their callings to move the education sector forward.
In a remark, the public Relations Officer of the college, Mr. Bright Yunusa Onailo, commended the Nigeria Education Merit Award for the honour done to the College and promise to maintain the highest standard the college has set for itself.
