UNGA@ 80, SDGs; Nigeria’s Take Away,

The Sustainable Development Goals SDGs in Nigeria, under the leadership of SSAP-SDGs to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire on annual period , precisely every September of the year, embarked on the trip to the United Nation’s General Assembly UNGA meeting in New York, a global convergence to chat a new way forward for the progress and development of both developing , developed countries, with particular attention on underdeveloped and developing ones, that boarders on Sustainable Development Goals SDGs .
This year’s UNGA 2025 refers to the 80th session of the United Nation’s General Assembly, was held from September 9- September 23, 2025, in New York.
The high-level general meeting , assemblage and debate was held with the session’s theme for this year was “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights”.
The Key events that was attended by SSAP -SDGs and the Nigeria’s Presidential aide, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire included a Climate Summit and a focus on accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs.
The Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs across Nigeria and globally is confronted with the next five years of meeting all the vulnerable requirements of decade of action, 2020-2030, having garnered the sub-nationals in Nigeria by the Presidential aide, all hands must be on deck to ensure the execution of the laudable and humanitarian activities, including the global programs domesticated in the country to bridge socioeconomic lapses.
On the sidelines, were participants brainstormed, the SSAP-SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire used the opportunity to present the progress reports so far on SDGs programs in Nigeria, and plans going forward .
No doubt the recent mobilisation of sub-nationals both at state and local governments, through the high level meeting with SDGs was on course, with
representatives at the states, to ensure the program is not only by nomenclature, but action as we move towards 2020-2030.
She said grassroots deserve more action and implementation which she highlighted at the sidelines occasion among many other achievements, with a promise to continue to domesticate all programs of SDGs in Nigeria, sustained over the years.
SSAP- SDGs as part of her policy framework monitored the availement of grants to states to ensure SDGs funds are judiciously utilised, to avoid diversion at the state level , hence the convening of the meeting for them to key in into the global program properly and conscientiously.
As part of her efforts to continue to stabilize the activities of SDGs, she reached out to Civil Society organisations, CSO’s, Non- Governmental Organizations NGO’s, Private Sector Advisory Groups, PSAG, Multinationals, Public Spirited individuals and organisations, PSI, Local and Foreign Supporters, LFS, to ensure their contributions both physically and financially are felt in the program.
Her policy thrust towards 2020-2030 decade of action, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire also reminded the sidelines that SDGs with fully domesticated activities operates within the government thrust of Renewed Hope Agenda, RHA, of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, and the pet project of Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI of the wife of the President, through collaborations, partnerships and direct intervention.
With government working framework under the Renewed Hope Agenda, RHA, government of Nigeria has invested heavily in the execution of SDGs projects, programs to the vulnerable in Nigeria.
While expressing more confidence in the activities of government and the first lady’s pet project, RHI, the execution of gigantic tertiary health projects , centres across six geopolitical zones and other specific ones across the country will be redoubled .
SDGs, Nigeria’s mobilisation of critical stakeholders will not only ensure a seamless five years programs between 2020-20230 , and the remaining five years, but a laudable one in the next year , 2026.
Already, the program in Nigeria under Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire has embarked on the commissioning of 100 bed Mother and Child Hospital built by the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs, at Gombe, North East, to address the growing Child, Maternal and other related cases in the area , fall out of the promise made at UNGA, and continuation of SDGs interventions and domestication in Nigeria, with others already commissioned in the five geopolitical zones.
Also Speaking at the UNGA Side Event on High-Level Executive Global Sustainable Investments and Grant Interventions 2025 in the presence of Nigeria’s SSA to the President, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, a panelist said an estimated $5–7 trillion is required annually between 2023 and 2030 to finance SDGs-related investments worldwide.
He noted that global climate financing alone would require more than $15 trillion, with annual needs put at $7.2 trillion.”
The panelist warned that state governments, local governments, civil society organisations, CSO’s and non-governmental organisations, NGOs must not be passive, if they intend to remain relevant in global development.”
“We gather today at a critical juncture in human history, where global sustainability, equity, and prosperity demand bold action and collective commitment for SDGs,”
According to the panelist presentation before the Nigeria’s SDGs presidential aide, strategic investments in sustainable development were both a moral imperative and an economic necessity, with low-carbon transitions offering opportunities for growth, job creation, and poverty reduction.”
“Emphasized that public-private partnerships, PPP and innovative financing models were central to closing the gaps, urging governments, civil societies CSO’s, and private actors to drive sustainable projects and social impact initiatives across countries including Nigeria .
“The Global Agenda 2030 provides a roadmap for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs.
“In order to realise this vision, we must mobilise grant interventions and investments supporting sustainable development projects in Nigeria, worldwide and foster public-private partnerships, PPP, driving innovations and scaling social impact,” the meeting agreed.
“The event drew participation from senior Nigerian government officials led by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima who represented the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, SSAP-SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, including Consular General of Nigeria in New York, Ambassador Abubakar Jidda; Mr. Syndoph Endoni f Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the UN among other officials”.
Other representatives of the sub-nationals included state governors as well as global stakeholders among others.
“The SDGs in Nigeria and stakeholders pledged to strengthen coalitions, advocating for climate action, social justice, and economic empowerment, more attention to health and Education, while stressing that mobilising sustainable investments remains the surest path to meeting SDGs 2020-2030 targets and decade of action.”
“With the financial proposal and implications of of 5$ -7$ for the 2026 towards the decade of action, 2020-2030 by a panelist, it became germane for Nigeria and other participating countries to redouble efforts towards meeting the global requirements. The panelist opined.
“The urgency to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs in Nigeria and reinvigorating global cooperation has become germane.
“With the theme emphasized unity and shared responsibility, celebrating the UN’s achievements over the past eight decades while acknowledging the need to adapt to new challenges. ”
“It also serves as a call to renew commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, strengthened global cooperation, and make the UN more effective for the future. ”
“The UN’s role and emphasis in public health and pandemic response, with the multiple attention been granted by SDGs in Nigeria, through provision and building of tertiary and Primary Health Care PHC, related structures achieved under Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.”
“The multiple high-level meetings at the 80th session of UNGA, focused on sustainable development, health, climate, and gender/advancing the status of women which Nigeria’s SDGs has focused and going forward for 2026 and decade of action 2020-2030.”
“With the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs record achievements for 2025, 2026, and also going forward, The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals SDGs, with the sustainability goals for 2025 are the interim targets for the UN’s 2020-2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which consists of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets to be achieved by 2030.”

The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals SDGs Report 2025 provided an overview of global progress on the 2030 Agenda, highlighting that while some areas have seen progress, like electricity access, setbacks persist in poverty, hunger, and education, health especially due to conflict and climate change.
The port identifies six critical areas for acceleration: food systems, energy, digital connectivity, education, jobs and social protection, and climate and biodiversity, calling for more investment and urgent action to address these challenges. ”
With consistent and usual participation of Nigeria on the program on annual basis, the level playing ground was already on course for the smooth and continuous execution of the 17 Goals SDGs related programs, geared towards resolving the decade of action 2020-2030 agenda with sub-nationals commitment in that regard, under the indefatigable leadership of Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire SSAP- SDGs to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Renewed Hope Agenda, RHA of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and Renewed Hope, Initiative, RHI, jointly, a programs designed by the Nigerian government and first lady , Senator Oluremi Tinubu will be achievable under the Nigeria’s Sustainable Development Goals SDGs programs.
