A member of the Kogi State House of Assembly representing Omala State constituency, Hon.Umar Yahaya Connect has reaffirmed his commitment to effective policymaking and stronger legislative oversight following a capacity-building conference in Kigali, Rwanda.
The lawmaker said the official trip had broadened his understanding of how legislative institutions could translate ideas into effective policies and deliver meaningful results for the people.
Reflecting on the experience, he noted that although he had travelled to several countries across Europe, Asia, America and Africa, the visit to Kigali stood out because of its potential to inspire practical changes in his constituency, Kogi State and Nigeria at large.

The lawmaker expressed particular admiration for Rwanda’s approach to legislative oversight, which he said emphasised performance, accountability and measurable results.
Connect further stressed that the ultimate value of capacity-building programmes should not be determined by the distance travelled or the number of sessions attended, but by the practical impact of the knowledge acquired.
He said the experience had strengthened his resolve to support more effective policymaking and promote legislative oversight mechanisms that ensure government decisions translate into tangible benefits for the people.
He further emphasised the importance of applying the lessons learnt in Kigali to improve governance and advance development in Omala State Constituency and Kogi State.
Describing the trip as short but impactful, the lawmaker maintained that its true value would be reflected in the actions and results that follow his return.

He reiterated his commitment to using the knowledge gained to contribute to better governance, stronger accountability and sustainable development across the state.
