In a decisive move to strengthen academic leadership and institutional efficiency, the Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime, has approved a number of appointments on April 17, 2026. The appointments are part of a broader strategic initiative aimed at positioning the Polytechnic for greater excellence in teaching, research, and administrative effectiveness.
Among the key appointments is Mr. Joel Tope Ebenezer, a Chief Lecturer in the School of General and Communication Studies, who has been named Acting Director, Directorate of Undergraduate Studies in affiliation with the Federal University, Lokoja. His appointment reflects the Rector’s confidence in his capacity to provide effective leadership in managing undergraduate programmes.
Mr. Joel, who previously served as Deputy Director within the Directorate, brings with him a wealth of experience and deep institutional knowledge. His familiarity with the workings of the Directorate is expected to ensure continuity, stability, and improved coordination in academic affairs.
Also appointed is Mrs. Audu Lucy Hassana, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science, who now serves as Acting Director, Directorate of SIWES. Her emergence marks a historic milestone as the first woman to head the unit, underscoring the Rector’s commitment to inclusivity and gender balance in leadership.
Mrs. Hassana is widely respected for her diligence and professional competence. Her appointment is seen as a strategic step towards strengthening the SIWES Directorate, particularly in enhancing students’ industrial exposure and fostering stronger institutional linkages with industry partners.
In a related development, Mr. Usman Francis Roberts, has been appointed as Acting Dean, School of Agricultural Technology. His elevation is a testament to his growing profile in academic leadership and his contributions to the development of the School.
Mr. Roberts is expected to leverage this opportunity to further hone his leadership skills while deepening research and academic excellence within the School. His appointment aligns with the Polytechnic’s drive to strengthen its agricultural programmes in response to national development priorities.
In addition, the Rector has approved the appointment of Acting Departmental Coordinators to coordinate the affairs of some departments. These appointments recognize their years of dedicated service, institutional loyalty, and commitment to mentoring students and younger colleagues, which have contributed significantly to the growth of their respective departments.
Mr. Onujagbe Paul Isezuo, a Principal Lecturer, has been appointed Acting Departmental Coordinator, Department of Sciences, School of Preliminary Studies. Known for his strong leadership qualities and research expertise, he is expected to provide effective academic coordination and guidance within the department.
Sheidu Audu Yakubu, a Lecturer I and former Examination Officer in the School of Part-time and Vocational Studies, has been appointed Acting Departmental Coordinator, Department of Computer Science. His administrative experience and attention to detail positions him well to strengthen academic delivery and departmental administration.
Jacob Oiza Mary, a Lecturer I in Office Technology Management, has also been appointed Acting Departmental Coordinator, Department of Office Technology Management. Her commitment to academic excellence and student development is expected to further enhance the department’s performance.
Congratulating the appointees, the Rector highlighted their years of service, institutional knowledge, and capacity for leadership as key considerations in their appointments. He noted that their new roles come with expectations of impactful service and meaningful contributions to the Polytechnic’s progress.
