Niger State speaker says independence of legislature will strengthen war against corruption.

The Speaker, Niger state House of Assembly RT Hon Abdullahi Bawa Wuse has said that the implementation of Financial autonomy for State Legislatures will strenghten the institution of the Legislature in the country and also make them more independent and accountable in line with the tenets of democracy.
Abdullahi Bawa Wuse stated this in Minna on Thursday at the resumption of the House after a 3 months break occasioned by the strike embarked upon by members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria PASAN.
The Speaker therefore commended members of PASAN for their “resolute fight in ensuring the ideals of democracy are allowed to play at various levels through the agitation for the implementation of Financial Autonomy to state Legislatures as enshrined in section 121(3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999″(as amended)
” There is no gain saying the fact that the implementation will strenghten the institution of the legislature and make us more independent and accountable in line with the tenets of democracy” Abdullahi Wuse mentioned.
He reminded members that ” We are already in our third legislative year indicative of the fact that we are now half way into our legislative mandate” stressing that we therefore need to remind ourselves of the enormous challenges ahead particularly our contract with the electorate.
” We must rise to the occasion at enduring the well-being of the electorates through improved qualitative legislation” he said before urging committees with pending bills to expeditiously work on them to enable the house conclude legislative action for the executive to implement.
On security Abdullahi Wuse said the state was more challenged during the strike and therefore emphasised the need for the house to collaborate with the executive in addressing the security challenges bedevilling the state.
The Speaker appealed for more understanding from the general public and urged them to always provide relevant Security bodies with information that will facilitate the elimination of bandits from the state.
The Speaker RT Hon Abdullahi Bawa Wuse further mentioned that in the past two years, twenty two bills have been passed and twenty one bills are still pending.T
