Hon. Abejide Chairs Kogi NUJ press Week, pencils 5 For Merit Awards

* Says Credible Electoral Act key to substantiate Democracy.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ),Kogi State Council, has expressed its determination to contribute its quota in the entrenchment of smooth democratic process and enhanced good governance in Nigeria.

Chairman of the council, Momojimoh Adeiza, stated this on Monday at the NUJ Press Centre, Lokoja, while briefing Journalists on the 2021 Press Week of the council, with grand finale slated for September 4.

Adeiza said inview of the importance , Journalists in the state attached to the concept of democracy, good governance and the the general wellbeing of Nigerians, this year’s theme for the Press Week would be on “Electoral Act and the Future of Nigeria’s Democracy.”

According to the chairman, Sen.Kabir Gaya, Chairman, Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission will give the key note address at the occasion, while Prof. John Alabi of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba will be lead paper presenter.

He expressed optimism that delibration on the theme would go along way in providing meaningful solutions to myriad of problems besetting the course of social, economic and political development of Nigeria, among other benefits.

Hon. Leke Abejide will be the Chairman of the event, adding that five persons who made positive impact in the life of the society have been slated for award.

“Sen. Gaya will be given award as “Icon of Democracy; Hon. Leke Abejide, “Icon of Grassroots Education, and the state Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr.Abubakar Ohere, for his impact in infrastructal development of Kogi state among others awardees.”
