Niger State House of Assembly has stepped down the screening and confirmation process for the renewal of tenure of Chairman and Permanent Members of the Niger State Independent Electoral Committee (NSIEC) till further notice.
The Chairman, House Standing Committee on Rules and Business, Hon Abdullahi Shaba Gbara, member representing Mokwa constituency in his committee’s report, stated that the committee observed that there was discrepancies in the title and content of the letter sent to the House by the State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, for renewal of their tenure, but realized that one of the nominees, Mr Solomon Nyaeze was not a member of the NSIEC in the last dispensation, which implied that his appointment was fresh, which he said clearly contradicted the letter sent to the House.
The Committee therefore, recommended that the names of the nominees be sent back to the executive to either return the former member of the commission, Abara Yahaya Idris, for renewal or indicate that Solomon Nyaeze was a fresh appointment.
It would be recalled that the Executive Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello’s communication was received by the House on 16th November, 2021, seeking the confirmation of the House for the appointment of the followings as Chairman and Permanent Members of the Niger State Independent Electoral Committee (NSIEC), Alh. Baba Aminu as Chairman, Ibrahim Aliyu Tungan wawa, Mr. Solomon Nyaeze, Kawu Mohammed Yakubu, Shu’aibu Haruna Kulho and Francis Bello, as well as Isyaku Dantata and Haj. Binta Zakari as permanent members one-to-seven respectfully.
