The Chief Judge of Niger State, Justice Halima I Abdulmalik,has appealed to the Governor of the state Abubakar Sani Bello to grant the state Judicial service commission permission to employ more staff, especially in critical area’s.
The Chief Judge made the call in an address at the special court session,as the Honourable Chief Judge of the state and Chairman of the state,Judicial service commission at the commencement of 2022/2023 legal year.
The Chief Judge of Niger State Halima said that vacancies exist in the state Judiciary due to retirement of the staff from service, according to the CJ “if this trend continues vacancies will be created which will result in deficit of staff in due course.
Justice Halima stated that she intend to overhaul the workings of the Judiciary for the better both structurally and insfrastructurally,”we have mapped out a strategic development plan to be executed in a short term,medium term and long term basis to fast track process and ensure speedy and quality dispensation of Justice.
The Chief Judge said that her leadership would do everything possible to fully digitized and automate the Judicial system for better and greater service, this according to her can be achieved if the necessary required fund’s from the state government are made available.
She stressed that the Bar has been supportive of the bench, adding that the cooperation must be sustained,”I must commend the Bar and it’s leadership for their supportive role,our interactions in the last one year and the year before has been candid and sincere”.
The Chief Judge added that training and re-training of all cader of Judicial offices and staff would be one of the top most priority of her administration.
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of NBA Niger State wing, Barrister Mohammed Wazir Abdulkadir on the occasion of special court session to commomorate the new legal year,stated that the continuous delay on the passage of the administration of criminal Justice Bill in the state is a major clog in the wheel of progress.
He said that,is embarrassing to note that Niger state is among the three States that are yet to pass the bill.
He called on the state House of Assembly to expedite quick legislative action on the bill for the administration of criminal Justice and penal code law of Niger state.
