Renounce crime or Face wrath of Law– AIG zone 8, Isokpan Tells Criminals in kogi, Kwara
The newly deployed Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) for Zone 8, Betty Isokpan, has issued a strong warning to criminals operating in Kogi and Kwara States, declaring that the police command will no longer serve as a safe haven for criminal activities.
Speaking shortly after assuming office in Lokoja, AIG Isokpan said the Zone 8 Command would intensify community policing, improve response to distress calls, and strengthen collaboration with residents to tackle kidnapping and other violent crimes.
“There will be no extortion. The doors of the Police are open. See something, say something, and we will do something.”
The 31st AIG to head the Zone—and the first woman to occupy the position—said her deployment by the Inspector-General of Police was based on her experience managing security challenges in states including Edo, Rivers, and Taraba.
She revealed that police deployments to security flashpoints in Kogi have already been increased in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, leading to improved response times and progress in investigating kidnapping cases.
AIG Isokpan warned criminals to either abandon their activities or prepare to face the full weight of the law.
“Criminals operating in Kogi and Kwara should relocate or be ready to face prosecution.”
She, however, noted that repentant offenders willing to renounce crime would be given an opportunity to reform, while persistent criminals would be arrested and prosecuted.
The police chief also identified the Safe School Initiative as a top priority, directing Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to conduct regular visits to schools, educate students on security awareness, and provide emergency contact lines for reporting suspicious activities.
She assured residents of Kogi and Kwara that the police would continue working with communities and other stakeholders to sustain peace, protect lives and property, and make the two states safer for law-abiding citizens.
