In solidarity with the International Day of Peace usually celebrated on the 21st September of every year, the NSCDC Kogi State Command joined it’s counterparts in other formations to sensitise the public on the need to embrace Peace.
The occasion which was organised with numerous activities ranging from Peace walk which commenced from the Command State Headquarters to various sporting centers within the State capital Lokoja showcasing the presence of NSCDC, informing the people on the importance of embracing peace amongst themselves especially now that Kogi State is warming up for the gubernatorial election by November 2023.
In a press release made available to journalists in Lokoja on Friday, the PRO of the command, DSC Abdullahi Aliyu, said it is expedient to note that peaceful coexistence will always lead to meaningful development and kogi State can not be an exception.
The return from the Peace walk cum sensitisation was followed up with lectures, where the guest lecturer DR. Mohammed O. Otokiti (Peace Ambassador) delivered his lecture emphasising on the importance of peace saying “to keep the nation secure and peaceful is a collective responsibility that requires all stake holders like the traditional institutions, political leaders , spiritual leaders, individuals and security agencies”
He said further “each stakeholder has unique ability to facilitate conflict resolution, promote tolerance and encourage adherence to rule of law.”
He added that, NSCDC Kogi State command under A.A GANDI is known for her proactiveness in facilitating peace in the state and mediating through it’s Peace and conflict resolution unit, vis-a-vis Agro rangers unit where issues of conflicts between farmer and herders have been resolved amicably.
In a remark, Commandant Ahmad Ahmad Gandi appreciated the guest speaker and a profound gratitude to the Commandant General Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi Mni OFR for his pragmatic policies and initiative which in-turn have placed NSCDC higher compared to other agencies in terms of peace advocacy.
He reiterated that the theme for this year peace day 2023 ACTION FOR PEACE: OUR AMBITION FOR GLOBAL GOAL will push us to recognize how individual and collective actions can affect and foster global peace, harping that the absence of peace deters positive development and creates a skeptical mindset where trust , cooperation and inclusiveness needed for societal development will be lacking.
Speaking further he advised that all hands must be on deck to ensure that the relative peace been enjoyed by the people of Kogi state is not in any disrepute by desperate politicians in the forth coming election .
